  • Hello and welcome to my blog! My website is where you will get a feel for my work as a wedding photographer, pricing information, and other details, but this blog is where I get to share my life with you. I'll be sharing things I learn, things that make me laugh, things that inspire me, things that frustrate me, the joys of being a newlywed, the sweet love stories of my clients and so much more!

I am a Kansas City wedding photographer; contact me for more information regarding your wedding day.

Self-Portrait: February Edition

What does a self-employed wedding photographer who works from home do on her birthday? Well let’s see…the day began with a happy birthday kiss from Grant, and then I ordered some new prints for our home, responded to emails, took Max on a walk, ate some PB & chocolate cookies my sweet mom brought over last night, and then I did a little pampering. After I got ready for the day, I decided I’d try out fake eyelashes, something I’ve never done before. FUN! I definitely should have used them for my wedding! Then I spent a few hours doing one of my favorite things…reading through old journals.

I began journalling part-way through high school, and since then have filled 30+ journals with daily happenings, thoughts, dreams, goals…these books truly capture the “me” at that time of life. I will treasure them forever. When I read through them, I feel like I have been brought back to that season of life. I can smell the smells, feel the emotions; I find it to be delightful! However, many of my journals are filled with struggles and frustrations. Struggles as I sought to find my place in life, figure out what I was good at, what I wanted to do with my future. Reading through them today has left me utterly grateful for where life has taken me thus far, and so curious to discover what sorts of adventures lie ahead in the next chapters of my life.

There are many random notes, sketches and memoirs throughout the books, and I loved this dove dark chocolate wrapper pressed between two pages:
Find your passion.

Go after your dreams.

Pursue the things that make you feel, “yes! THIS is what I’ve been created to do!” A great reminder and a fun afternoon of walking down memory lane on this quarter-of-a-century birthday.:)

I, too, have about a million journals from HS and beyond. I love going back to read them and see what God has taught me along the way. Usually I discover so many things I prayed for that I may not have even realized He answered. I am looking forward to handing some of them down to my children when I am much older so they can know my heart even more.

Also, I just turned 25 this month too. The more I read your blog, the more I see we have in common :)
