tears of joy.

Today is the day Jesus welcomed my 99-year-old great grandmother with outstretched arms into heaven. Tears of joy and of course sadness filled my eyes as I received the news. She was a remarkable woman in every way. Quite a few months ago, her health began declining rapidly and she decided that she should be moved into hospice. It was a sorrowful time, because we knew this meant her days were numbered. To the amazement of the nurses, doctors and her family, her health soon increased and she was doing well again, something that hardly ever happens to elderly in hospice care. She was the joy and delight of all her nurses; she brightened everyone’s day with her wit and optimism. She was even thrown a big birthday bash when she turned 99! I remember my mom telling me that she was so frustrated that she didn’t have her own money, because it saddened her to not be able to give gifts! What an extraordinary woman! Despite her declining health, her mind was occupied with her desire to give!

I will always be amazed at the health she was blessed with for her 99 years, and so grateful to be able to call this amazing woman my great grandmother.

Praise God that this earth is not our final home, that those of us who believe Him have an eternity awaiting us that far exceeds anything we could ever imagine or dream up!

What a wonderful legacy Allison! I know you will miss her dearly, but how wonderful you get to celebrate her life, knowing she now resides in Heaven with our Heavenly Father! Lovely photos of your family!

KC Weddings Bridal Show Re-cap

This post is a bit overdue, but I want to send a quick shout-out of THANK YOU! to everyone who stopped by my booth at the KC Weddings Bridal Spectacular. I was overwhelmed with all the positive feedback I received on my setup, and it was so fun to meet hundreds of brides!

A special thank you goes out to my wonderful husband in the set up of this booth! Without your help hauling all the supplies and putting it together, I couldn’t have made this happen! Also thank you to Stacy who helped with the set-up and tear down, and Holly for her spunk and excitement to talk to brides all day with me at my booth, and to Steph & Jess, who also helped tear everything down afterwards! I am so grateful for all your help!

LOVE your set-up! It’s great inspiration for me when I choose, in the years ahead, to go full-on with my wedding photography business. :)

January Self-Portrait: it’s the small things

Yes, that’s right! Another year of self-portraits here I come! When I was debating whether to continue this series, I kept thinking about if I could fast forward 5 or so years and have this collection of who I was back in those days, I get really excited! I will continue this project for as long as I can, and someday I would love to make a book out of these self-portraits paired with my description of each one. That will be a fun keepsake to pass onto the children some day!

When it comes to decorating, I’ve learned that less is more. Even the smallest of changes can have a BIG part in making a space feel lively. A pretty vase with fresh flowers, a furry or colorful pillow to spruce up a couch, flow-ey white curtains to brighten up a room…or a new, fresh shower curtain! What you don’t see in this photo below is that this little bathroom in our rental home is small. and terribly outdated. Pink and cream tile, and very pink tub. We’ve had a dark brown shower curtain in this bathroom since we moved in, and it dawned on me yesterday that a new shower curtain would do wonders in this tiny space. Boy was I right! I now find this terrible little bathroom to be kind of pretty!:)

Sometimes it’s the small things that get me so excited!

But hopefully you won’t have to worry about that shower curtain when you guys move into your NEW HOUSE, right? :) Cute photo and so happy to see you tackling this again in 2012!
