February Self-Portrait

In the midst of birthday celebrations, recovering from a nasty cold and a few wedding consultations, February has been all about preparing for our new house. We had  no idea the process would be so long and stressful, but the finish line is in sight! On Wednesday, we will close on our house and a week later, we will say goodbye to our funky little rental home, in the pic above! We are SO excited to have a house that we can take care of and truly make our own!

No deep thoughts from this gal today…my brain is still a little foggy from the exhaustion of having a cold!

In only a few days we will have the keys that unlock this lovely front door!:)

January Self-Portrait: it’s the small things

Yes, that’s right! Another year of self-portraits here I come! When I was debating whether to continue this series, I kept thinking about if I could fast forward 5 or so years and have this collection of who I was back in those days, I get really excited! I will continue this project for as long as I can, and someday I would love to make a book out of these self-portraits paired with my description of each one. That will be a fun keepsake to pass onto the children some day!

When it comes to decorating, I’ve learned that less is more. Even the smallest of changes can have a BIG part in making a space feel lively. A pretty vase with fresh flowers, a furry or colorful pillow to spruce up a couch, flow-ey white curtains to brighten up a room…or a new, fresh shower curtain! What you don’t see in this photo below is that this little bathroom in our rental home is small. and terribly outdated. Pink and cream tile, and very pink tub. We’ve had a dark brown shower curtain in this bathroom since we moved in, and it dawned on me yesterday that a new shower curtain would do wonders in this tiny space. Boy was I right! I now find this terrible little bathroom to be kind of pretty!:)

Sometimes it’s the small things that get me so excited!

Look back at a year of self-portraits

It’s hard to believe a whole year has passed since I began my year of self-portraits! What a wonderful, challenging, humorous, fulfilling, growth-producing,  joy-filled, change-at-every-turn sort of year! It is truly amazing how much change can happen in one year. That first photo in December last year seems like forever ago! When I began this project in December of 2010, I wrote, “The purpose of the photo is to capture a general mood or theme or event of the month”. It’s incredible looking back, because in so many ways, these 13 photos really do capture the essence of 2011 for me.

Before the project recap, here is my December photo! Grant and I just returned home from a great trip to Minneapolis for a friend’s wedding, and I had the great joy of spending an afternoon with the three amazing women who I lived with my senior year of college. It definitely makes it on my list of “favorite memories of 2011″! I will dedicate a different post to this fun afternoon, but for now, here is my December self-portrait, taken at the Bachman floral house:

Love these so much Allison. I’ve started a monthly self portrait too since I couldn’t wait for January, and seeing your compilation brought me even more motivation to keep doing it. I hope you do it again!!
