Painting Project

One reason I love winter: it’s a great time to work on art projects on my “to-do” list! Last week I pulled out the good ‘ole acrylic paints and paint brushes, bought a 12×24″ canvas, and went to town! I LOVE the song “Oh, How He Loves Us” by David Crowder, so when I saw this lovely painting on pinterest (original link here), I KNEW I had to make one! I just wish I could take credit for the idea!:)

This very simple painting will be a great reminder each day that we are deeply loved by our Creator, especially for those days when things just don’t seem to be going our way. There is nothing that can separate us from His love, and its in this truth that I seek to find my identity, passion and purpose each day.

One of my goals before 2012 was to begin and finish one DIY creative project. Well…I must say that was not a lofty enough goal! When I first compiled this list of goals, I was still in the thick of my FULL fall schedule, which meant I was dreaming of having time for even just one creative project! A week after I posted these goals, I had already completed two fun projects, a fall wreath and a Christmas tree:

For the wreath, I decided to go without any specific inspiration or tutorial. I hit the isles of Hobby Lobby in search of the perfect ingredients for a fall-themed wreath. I ended up gathering many stemmed flowers, a couple fall picks and burlap. I covered the base of the wreath in burlap and then simply used my glue gun to attach an assortment of artificial fall flowers. I’m pleased with the way it turned out, and it definitely brings a little extra life to our front door!

For this next project, I was inspired by this rosette tree, and created my own version!

It was such a fun (but definitely time consuming!) project, and it makes me really eager to make more decorations for Christmas this year. I have visions of Christmas tree ornaments made of felt and sheet music, garland wreaths…oh my! excited!

So what does my little succulent have to do with creative projects? Well, nothing at all. As you have noticed, I have a certain fondness for succulents! I had to include this little guy in my mini arrangement because he’s nearing his final days in this life. Needless to say, although I love plants, I don’t exactly have a green thumb!:)

I stumbled across your blog after seeing your name on Katelyn Jame’s blog. I LOVE the diy tree project!!! I have been dying to take on a fun diy project…or series of them…and they NEVER happen! This has inspired me :)

Mission Road Antique Mall in Kansas City

I’ve never been much of an “Antique Mall” sort of person…until recently. I’ve discovered there are all sorts treasures to be found in antique shops! I’ve heard of a few really great ones in Kansas City like the Vintage Market, Urban Mining Housewares, Good Juju, and the Mission Road Antique Mall. I checked the antique mall out today, and it was quite the experience! There are hundreds room-like sectioned off areas with one seller’s items per area. It would take me hours to look through that huge place! I walked quickly around the place, gawked at some GORgeous pieces of furniture and their outrageous prices, and ended up leaving the store with a few goodies. First, these quirky “moss carrots”! No idea quite what to do with them yet…but I couldn’t resist their charm!

Second, this rustic wreath! I’m loving wreaths lately, and this one struck my fancy! I wish I could tell you that I made it…maybe I’ll have to venture out for some supplies to make one as a gift! For now I will enjoy its sweetness on my front door:)
