Sometimes life throws you curveballs. My fiance Grant had a major unexpected curveball last Sunday; he was injured in a softball game and has been in the hospital since. It’s astonishing how life can change so much in one split second…or in one common slide into second base. The moment he hit the ground, he knew something was terribly wrong with his elbow. He was rushed to the ER while in excruciating pain. After X-Rays were taken, the doc had bad news. His elbow was severely fractured. One bone was completely broken off and rotated at an 180 degree angle, while the tip of his elbow was shattered into multiple pieces. We both cried at the reality that he could likely be in a splint or sling for our wedding….and even more unlikely that he will be able to play a song for me on guitar during the wedding. He had reconstructive surgery on Tuesday, which went just as planned. They put all the pieces back together with plates and rods. This is his 5th full day here at the hospital, and his pain only seems to get worse.
It’s been an incredible blessing this week to be self-employed, as it’s allowed me to be by his side in the hospital every step of the way. I had no idea how difficult it is to see someone you love in pain…and be 100% powerless to do anything about it. Using the word “difficult” is a huge understatement. It hurts so badly to see him endure such excruciating pain. If you are a praying type, please pray for Grant. Beg God to lessen his pain, reduce his swelling, bring miraculous healing to his body, and restore his spirits. It’s in times like these that all I can do is trust that God IS good and faithful.
