Pretty!

I couldn’t help but take photos of this order before it gets picked up today! I am a believer in the importance of little details, especially in regards to reinforcing a brand. It’s so fun when I make a purchase at one of my favorite shops, and they wrap it so beautifully that it’s like opening a gift when I get home…even though I was the one who bought it!  I love doing the same thing – packaging my client orders with pretty details to show the care that went into creating it, and to remind them all over again why they chose me as their photographer!

Also, check out these really cool wallets Erika ordered (though a little blurry in this photo)! You may remember that we did a “shoe shoot” after her senior session when I discovered that she is a shoe girl! She requested that her wallets be a collage out of her fav shoe photos and printed on high-fashion metallic paper. She’ll have the most unique wallets to pass out to her friends! The more unique things and ideas clients bring to their shoots that represent who they are, the better!

Katie & Jim | Des Moines Wedding Photographer

How to even begin sharing about my dear friend Katie?! She and I both grew up in Indianola, and I always looked up to her as what I wanted to be like “when I grew up”. Over the past 5+ years, I remember many conversations we had about our deep desire to be married, and how to be content in our seasons of singleness. After I moved back to the Des Moines area this past August, I visited Valley Church and Katie was leading worship that week. {She is and INCREDIBLE musician and overflows with love for God and for worship!} After the music, she found her spot to sit during the message, and she nestled her head into a man’s shoulder and then he kissed her forehead! I had no idea she was in a relationship! I was SO excited to meet this man, as I knew he had to be quite the catch! After getting to know Jim,  he and Katie couldn’t possibly be a better fit. I am so honored to get to photograph their wedding in July!

Talk about a classy couple!

And for the story Katie will always remember as she looks back at her engagement shoot! It was the day of their scheduled shoot, and I got a call from Jim on Katie’s phone. I knew something had to be wrong. Well, Katie had wanted to use a photo frame in a couple of their engagement photos, so that afternoon she was taking the backing and glass out of this frame, and the glass shattered and cut her little finger! After one look at it, Jim took her into the ER and she got a bunch of stitches and a tetanus shot!! How awful! All for some cool photos! So I took this shot to remember the incident:

Good work! What time of day do you typically shoot? The light is gorgeous! You have great locations too!

I once was lost, but now I’m found!

In the words of my dearly beloved iPod… “it’s been a rough journey. i once was lost, but now i’m found!”

Last fall, I was running on the treadmill at the gym, enjoying some music on my ipod. Because I didn’t have a fancy arm band for my ipod, I had it nestled in the handy ledge on the treadmill. After many, many long miles I had run with my ipod like this, it had never caused me any trouble…until this day. My hand caught my earphone cord, and my ipod flew through the air. I quickly paused the treadmill and went to the floor to pick it up. I didn’t see it right away, so I got on the ground to look under the treadmill…not there either. Hmm. Where could my little ipod have gone? There was an older gentleman on a machine behind me, and he proceeded to get on the ground with me to help in the search. He saw it fly to the ground as well, but to our dismay, it was no where in sight! I left a note for the gym staff, explaining my predicament, and finished my workout. I heard from them a couple days later, and they had someone come to the gym to take apart the treadmill in search of my ipod. No luck. I was insistent that it was in there…and they probably thought I was crazy! After a few excruciating days spent without my beloved music,  I decided to take the plunge and upgrade to an ipod touch. I mean, I had a perfectly legitimate reason to spend extra cash, right? Music is a huge part of my life, and to go without it…well…let’s not even imagine a life like that!

I got my touch and I absolutely LOVE it. And then what happened, you may ask? You got it! A couple days ago, a whole SEVEN months after my treadmill-ate-my-ipod incident, a woman at the gym called because they found my ipod! Not only mine, but there were 2 others that had gotten trapped in the same place! Crazy! This treadmill has a serious appetite for ipods! So, now I am left with the best of both worlds: my little classic one to run with and my touch for everything else. I will forever be more careful on a treadmill. I might even venture to simply watch the tv’s rather than dare to subject my lil’ ipod to such pain again. =)

And the card with the quote about design: i agree!

Yes, I am sitting here in front of my computer, listening to the rain and Opie trying to get out through the patio door window so he can “court” Chiquita, the huge guard dog, wishing I didn’t have a long to do list……..and laughing at your “the treadmill ate my ipod and it miraculously appeared with some other friendly ipods” story! A funny, but neat story!!!!
