Dutch Letters

When I was in the Netherlands last summer, I gave myself a fun, challenging assignment: to create the letters of the alphabet, using objects that are not intented to be letters. This was more difficult than I thought! It’s interesting how some letters occur naturally in our world all over the place, and other letters were really challenging to find. I loved doing this because it made me look at the world around me differently: I saw details I wouldn’t otherwise see, I looked up high & down low…so many cool things I would have missed if I hadn’t been on the look-out! I like how this alphabet turned out because I think it depicts the Netherlands really well!

Even better because it’s loaded with memories for me…that’s the best part!

Hey Allison, I came to view your blog because you took Adam & Daynas engagement pictures (Dayna is a friend of mine)I added you to my blog list after seeing just a few of your posts. You are a very talented photographer!! God has blessed you with a beautiful gift! I have loved all of your posts but this one is def one of my favorites! I’ve seen someone do something like this only once before (they spelled their last name and hung it up on their wall at home) I love how it shows intricate details of things we pass by as ordinary. Can’t wait to see what light you capture next! :) -Britney

You did a Great job with that and it made me look at the things too and think how many times we probably see things that we never actually “see”!
Good way to make you stop, look and enjoy the surroundings!
I will maybe do your challenge sometime! :) Thanks for sharing!

Beauty

For those of you who may be checking out my website for the first time…no, I’m not primarily a baby photographer! During this slow non-wedding season, I am working a part time job as a baby photographer for Bella Baby Photography at Mercy hospital in Des Moines. I never dreamed of finding a part-time job that allows me to do what I love!

Thursday was the busiest baby day I’ve had yet … and every baby that I photographed was really really fussy! Strange, something must’ve been going on to make them all fussy on the same day! What I love, though, is the magic power of moms. When moms come close and touch and whisper to the baby, they magically stop screaming! How do they do that?!  I’m also amazed at the beauty and perfection of babies. Every new baby I see and photograph, I am blown away at how tiny and intricate they are, and how everything in their bitty bodies works together so perfectly.  Life is truly an amazing thing!

Here are a couple of my favorites from yesterday. I LOVE this first one; the contrast of the mom’s dark hands with the baby’s skin is so beautiful. This was a mom working her magic in getting this little gal perfectly content!

Brandon & Amanda: Engaged!

This was the cooooldest engagement session I have done yet! Brrr! Brandon and Amanda are a super sweet couple, and I have the privilege of photographing their wedding next year. I love the winter-y look of their photos, and it sure was easy for them to get close to each other in front of the camera…they had to keep each other warm!  We began our session at the Garden Barn near Indianola. It is one of my favorite spots in the area. When I set foot into this gorgeous old barn, I cannot help but long to spend hours inside! It is shop  full of  unique rustic-style  garden and home decor with rich ambiance. I could spend a few thousand dollars there in a hurry! Next to the barn there is a large garden with all sorts of grasses, used to create neat decorative grass arrangements. If you haven’t been there, you should check it out, especially during this Christmas season!

I love this first one, as Brandon was whispering something sweet in Amanda’s ear!
