A Nostalgic Run

I have a vivid visual memory. I remember realizing this way back in middle school, when I was taking a test and I could vividly see exactly where in the textbook I read the answer to a specific question, but I couldn’t remember the answer. For me, random things and places bring back so many memories, and sometimes even memories of emotions that feel so real I almost believe I’m re-living them. It could be a place where something momentous occurred, or even a pair of jeans that bring me back to a different season of life. I had one of those moments last night as I was on a run. It was my first run since I moved back to Iowa from Albuquerque, and it ended up to be a run down memory lane. We live out in the country, and it was a perfectly beautiful evening. The rolling hills of lush green grass and trees, brilliant blue lake, birds flying and chirping as if playing a silly game of hide-and-seek. I had to stop part way through to take it all in! I will have to go out in the evening and take a photo for you so you can visualize this beautiful place. Anyway, my mind was flooded with all the memories I have on this lovely dirt road:

  • driving to school by myself for the first time with my driver’s license
  • many, many runs as I trained for Cross County, and then for a half marathon with my dad
  • driving home after an intense break-up with a boyfriend in highschool and hitting an enormous pothole, and thinking I had for sure just popped my tire!
  • Long walks with Stacy Billings (now Stacy Frazer!)
  • driving home after working at the good ‘ole Gap!
  • The time when the river rose so high it touched the top of the bridge.  Scary!
  • making the trecherous treck to jazz band at 6:30am in the winters when the snow was piled high

So, that’s a snapshot of my visual memory for you…and that’s only in one place! If there’s a thing or place that always seems to bring you back to a certain time, share it with us in the comment section!

Jacobo & Stepha: Married!

I met Stepha through Elissa, a mutual friend who was in charge of finding Stepha a wedding photographer. I’m so blessed that she found me! It has been so fun to get to know Stepha and Jacobo, and their wedding was the most beautiful wedding I’ve ever been to, as well as the first outdoor wedding I’ve been to! The ceremony took place in the Jemez mountains of New Mexico, in Stepha’s back yard. Wow, it was gorgeous! Jacobo & Stepha, thank you again for having me be a part of your big day; everything about your wedding was perfectly beautiful!

I LOVE Stepha’s dress and the bridesmaid’s dresses! It was so fun to take them outside and capture some creative shots with them!

These are my favorites from the day – I don’t know what Jacobo said, but he sure got Stepha laughing! These were tunnels about 10 minutes away from Stepha’s home, and they were so beautiful. We only had a very short 15 minutes to do portraits, so it was short and sweet! It was like a mini-Grand Canyon out there, which I had no idea existed in New Mexico!

I love how the little girls are watching Stepha with such admiration in their eyes!

There were little pieces of fuzz falling from the trees, which created the most beautiful atmosphere! It looked like it was snowing!

Allison- I am Elissa’s mother…and Stepha is one of my “second daughters”…I was not able to return to the US to attend the wedding, but your photos really touched my heart and gave me the feeling as if I was there. You captured the story of the day, and the feeling of the celebration of Stepha and Jacob’s wedding. The photos are amazing. Thank you

Stepha & Jacobo: Sneak Peak!

blog-preview2
This weekend has been a crazy whirlwind! I photographed a beautiful wedding in the Jemez mountains of New Mexico on Sunday, and on Monday I moved back to Iowa – my dad flew down to drive with me, and we ended up in the car for a total of 22 hours!! We stopped to sleep a little in the car, but other than that, we drove straight through! It was so painful to not be able to really begin sorting through and editing the photos until today…but my eyes are so so sore and tired! So I’ll give you a preview of this beautiful couple, and then call it a night.
